Metallica In Jail! - Complication (Wed Apr 30 15:37:17 2003) |
Today, Metallica have been filming the video for the title track of their new album "St. Anger". The video will be shot with new bassist Rob Trujillo at San Quentin Prison, California.
As a thankyou to the Prison for allowing the band to shoot their video there, Metallica will play a show for the inmates on May 1st.
The single version of "St. Anger" is likely to have Rob recorded on bass instead of producer Bob Rock, but will not be released before the album on June 9th.

Spider speaks out on PM5K - revmaynard (Tue Apr 29 02:47:55 2003) |
For those of you who were wondering what the hell happened with PM5K's "Anyone for Doomsday?" that was scrapped days before it was scheduled to be released, MTV.com has a good interview with frontman Spider where he talks about said album:
"With the Doomsday record, I saw what was gonna happen with the music we created. I knew that we would be forever stuck in this mold of 'new metal/industrial/Rob Zombie thing,' and I really couldn't deal with that because that's not where my head is at musically,"
He later goes on to comment about the state of todays music:
"My mission this year is to give kids the ability to use their bullsh-- detectors again, which we've completely lost in the last few years," Spider said. "When somehow a nation is fooled that Avril Lavigne is actually a punk rocker, we've got some problems."

Metallica cover art and logo - revmaynard (Fri Apr 18 22:16:38 2003) |
|
The cover art and new logo for Metallica's upcoming cd, "St. Anger", have been posted online here. "St. Anger" is due out on June 10th through Elektra. The cover art seems very un-Metallica to me, but hey, if this cd is as good as it's supposed to be, I don't really care what the cover looks like. From what I hear, they're going back to their roots, no more Load/Reload crap. But I find it hard to believe a bunch of 40 year olds can rock as heavy as they did when they were 20, but we'll see.

In Flames EP and pending tour - revmaynard (Fri Apr 11 02:43:23 2003) |
In Flames, who are currently working on the video for their next single off of 2002's Reroute to Remain (best cd of 2002 if you ask me), Trigger, have announced the tracklist for an EP for said song.
01 - "Trigger" (Single Edition)
02 - "Watch Them Feed"
03 - "Land Of Confusion" (Genesis Cover)
04 - "Cloud Connected" (Club Connected Remix)
05 - "Moonshield" (C64 Karoke Version)
Also, the band will be headlining a US tour starting late June. Yay for me, because I didn't get to see them when they came through here opening for Mudvayne. I'd rather see them headlining anyways.

PM5K songs and video posted - revmaynard (Fri Apr 11 02:32:36 2003) |
Powerman 5000 have posted 3 songs and a video from their upcoming cd, Transform, here. I don't know, I was lucky enough to get my hands on Anyone For Doomsday? before it was so hastily scrapped, and I'm really wishing they had kept this. This new cd doesn't sound bad, but it just doesn't have the oomph that their previous cds had.

Korn In The Studio - Complication (Thu Apr 10 15:35:53 2003) |
Rap/Metal pioneers Korn have begun work on the follow-up to last year's comercially disappointing album, "Untouchables".
"We wanted to get back into the studio to do the album we wanted to do," said frontman Jonathan Davis who will be producing the record. "We're at different places in our lives, and the scene we started has started to die off. We're not trying to prove anything. We proved ourselves. This is just about making a good album. It's cool what's happening. We opened up a door that all kinds of bands came through and were accepted. But what happened is the record companies over-saturated the market. So it's really exciting to see new stuff going on."

Nuclear Assault - 4L145 (Wed Apr 9 16:03:57 2003) |
The heralded and heavily anticipated return of the most gifted thrash metal giants thrusts into high gear in early 2003, when the original lineup of New York’s NUCLEAR ASSAULT initiates a world tour throughout the New Year 2003 to support the upcoming ‘Alive Again’ live album for Screaming Ferret Wreckords. Confirmed dates will take the band through the US during the Winter (with openers Origin and All That Remains) and in Europe through the Spring on the No Mercy/Easter Festivals 2003 package tour with stalwarts Testament, Darkane, Marduk and Pro-Pain.
The forthcoming ‘Alive Again’ live album represents NUCLEAR ASSAULT’s first release in over 9 years. Lilker explains: “We will soon be releasing our new live album, so people can see for themselves that we still have it! I know a lot of thrash bands seem to be reuniting and some people are wondering ‘Can these guys in their late 30's still hack it?’ The answer is undoubtedly yes!”
Not content to keep the reunion to a mere commemorative or nostalgic event, NUCLEAR ASSAULT is also planning a new studio record for the near future! Danny Lilker offers a sneak preview of what can be expected: “We are in the process of writing new material, and I can tell you that it's definitely in the style of the old stuff. Once again speaking for myself, I think the metal scene NEEDS an injection of classic thrash metal 'cos I've had enough of people thinking Linkin Park is metal. We'll have to show these youngsters how metal is really played!”
Well said NA! Trashing of LP without being offensive! I missed them yesterday, sadly, but they're goin all over the place in the US! No excuses!
Check the tour section for dates and Gigs (theres a lot)

Deftones tour - guerilla style - revmaynard (Tue Apr 8 18:36:13 2003) |
Before they head out on the Summer Sanitarium tour, The Deftones have announced a May club tour that is being dubbed a guerrilla-style tour where the show will be announced the day before. The reason they're doing this is to better serve their die-hard fans. I wish more bands would do this. Back when System of a Down was first hitting it big, they were playing a small club here, and what do you know, I couldn't get tickets because of all the 16 year old assholes who heard Chop Suey on MTV the night before. ARGH!
Anyway, back the The Deftones - their self-titled cd is set to be released on May 20th, but to hold you over till then, here's a short film from their upcoming DVD documenting the band's history.

Leeds and Reading Festival Announcements - Complication (Mon Apr 7 19:46:14 2003) |
The first wave of bands for this year's Leeds and Reading Festivals in England have been announced. Bands joined the already confirmed Metallica are as follows: System of a Down, Placebo, Sum 41, Linkin Park, Blink 182, Blur, The White Stripes, AFI, Beck, Courtney Love, The Doves, Elbow, Good Charlotte, Hundred Reasons, The Cooper Temple Clause, The Datsuns, The Music, The Mars Volta, The Polphonic Spree and The Streets.
Aside from a few of the acts (Blink 182, Good Charlotte, etc.), the first announcement of bands may be indicative of the high profile acts still to be announced for this year's festivals. Leeds and Reading both have a history of being THE festivals to go to for alternative music in the UK, and hopefully more great bands will follow.

New bassist for Incubus - revmaynard (Mon Apr 7 00:54:32 2003) |
After parting ways with bassist Dirk Lance, for reasons unbeknownst to everyone but the band themselves, it appears that Incubus have hired Ben Kenney, formerly of The Roots to take over bass duties. Kind of a weird match if you ask me, but hey, I stopped caring about Incubus when they put out two crappy cd's in a row. In regards to why Lance left the band, someone claiming to be their manager has stated "The reasons for the decision are a private matter amongst the four founding members and I hope that their fans will respect their wishes and avoid the temptation to look for ‘dirty laundry.’"

Biohazard's Evan Seinfeld bashes Morello and Tankian - revmaynard (Sun Apr 6 14:33:56 2003) |
In what appears to be a rather humorous interview, Seinfeld spews such bullsh*t as "Tom Morello is probably the most politically confused guy I’ve ever heard speak" and "They [System of a Down] came to America to escape religious and political persecution in their country and to save their lives. We saved their lives, America, and then he comes here and makes a career dissing America. I spoke to him personally about it, face to face: “Don’t diss America because the only reason you’re alive is because America is here to save your ass.” He’s like, “Yeah, I haven’t really thought about it that way.”" HA! Either Evan's lying about that, or Serj said that just to get this f**k out of his face. I do the same thing sometimes...instead of starting an argument neither of you will win, just say 'yeah, whatever'. Anyway, the rest of the article can be found here.

I've been waiting for this cd since I saw them open for Tool last August. I just listened to this song several times over, and it sounds like it's going to be everything I expected and then some.
